I hope you are enjoying today's Venus sextile Neptune. This is a day of good times and inspiration.
Meanwhile Mars is conjunct dwarf planet Pluto, so we might find our actions are empowered and that we are doing a lot of work. Or we could be battling demons that are surfacing in our lives, or fighting a real world battles with other people. Pluto wants change, and if we are open to that, his energy empowers us, but when we are insensitive to it, the energy manifests as problems in our lives, and if we resist it, it just overwhelms us.
The Mars-Pluto conjunction is sesquiquadrate Orcus, our planet of karmic consciousness, so dealing with our karma will play a large part in setting up what we are busy with today.
Let's look at Orcus and this sesquiquadrate in a case study. New Zealand's first elected female Prime Minister, Helen Clark, has Orcus conjunct her MC, so she played an archetypal role resolving entrenched social problems in the country.
She had transiting Mars sesquiquadrate her natal Orcus when she announced her first full ministerial team and their portfolios. This team implemented policies that addressed issues such as income inequality, historical injustices, social welfare, healthcare, and education.
Central to this were her economic reforms, introducing policies aimed at reducing income inequality and supporting low-income families, while improving access to healthcare and education. Here we see Orcus' ability to transmute shadow into light, to take an entrenched problem and turn it into a positive.
The Sabian Symbol for Orcus' discovery degree, 25 degrees Leo, is "A Large Camel Crossing a Vast and Forbiding desert". And Dane Rudhyar describes the keynote of this symbol as being "Self-sufficiency in the face of a long and exhausting adventure."
Helen Clark's government also placed significant emphasis on settling historical Treaty of Waitangi claims with Māori tribes. It worked towards resolving past injustices and building stronger relationships with indigenous communities. This aimed to address longstanding grievances and promote cultural recognition and equity.
We see Orcus' ability to tackle the big problems in the material world in this effort, and the persevere he gives us in the long term nature of the treaty settlement process. But what does Orcus mean for those of us on the spiritual path? In his interpretation of the Sabian Symbol, Rudhyar answers this question in this way:
"The suggestion here is that in order to be released from bondage to the "old world" we should be completely self-contained emotionally; having absorbed the mental food which this old culture has given us, we are ready to face "the desert," nothingness, Sunya . . . until we reach the "new world. We need total independence from our surroundings and utter self-reliance."
Orcus Scholarships
So, if you want to develop your self reliance within a supportive group of international students, I have a few last scholarships on our Orcus course which starts in April.
In all the courses we see, by simply making these new aspects conscious, students become empowered and their lives are transformed. We need to engage with these new consciousness energies to take them out of the unconscious area of action, and a great way to do that is join a class and study them in your chart and through that in your life.
The students on all the courses range from beginners to very experienced astrologers, and it is this range that is the source of the vibrant class culture. What students love is the community sharing, through blog-posted assignments and live Zoom Q&As, which gives a really good picture of how these new planets act similarly, and yet diversely, in each of our lives.
New Stars for a New Era
Wow team! Thank you so much for your interest in my new book! We had 1300 downloads of the Kindle edition and sold well over 200 paperbacks during the launch promotion! And the sales continue with more than 60 paperbacks sold in the last 24 hours.
And the 5 star ratings and reviews have started to come in for the Kindle ebook! Thanks again team! Can I ask the paperback buyers to also help rate and review the book? I know you have already gone the extra mile to buy it, but because the paperback and Kindle are still not linked on Amazon, the Paperback doesn't yet have any star ratings. And if you bought it from Barnes and Noble, please review it there.
To those of you wanting to get the paperback, but who are frustrated by Amazon's restrictive delivery policies to some places (like New Zealand), I suggest getting the book from Barnes and Noble. I hear they are sometimes even offering free shipping.
New Stars Talks
And finally, I am booking a series of Zoom talks based on the book, to promote the release, so if you are part of an astrology group, please reach out to see if we can make it happen. From the spectacular interest in the launch, I think this book will have wide appeal.
Join us if you can on the Orcus course, and thanks for your work embracing these new aspects of consciousness.
Love and laughter

Alan Clay’s sensitive, cutting edge wisdom and the community sharing make the classes on the Dwarf Planets compelling and profound. They are as much an exploration as a revelation. Not only mentally stimulating, they are a deep dive into each of our psyche and growth experience. I love them and am looking forward to more. - Karen La Puma, Astrologer, Counselor, Speaker.
